Old Latins and anyone interested in local history are invited to an Archive Open Day The Royal Latin School on Friday, April 29.

The archive was opened five years ago in rooms in Rotherfield House, the sixth form centre, with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The archive has concentrated on the last 100 years of Royal Latin School history from 1908 when the school moved from the Chantry Chapel to what is now Grenville Academy and later when it moved again to its current site in 1963.

Pupil and staff registers, letters, photos, diaries, financial accounts, examples of school uniform, pupils’ exercise books and school reports, along with a wealth of other material, have been donated to create an impressive archive of information.

The archive has been further developed by work done by Old Latins and present students on the impact of the First and Second World Wars on the school and the town of Buckingham.

The Archive Day is from 2pm to 5pm, with afternoon tea and cakes, a couple of short talks by Old Latins and a tour of the new Discovery Centre.
