A primary school has hit a technical hitch with its planned conversion to academy status.

In July last year, Buckingham’s Grenville Combined School, in Chandos Road, approached another of the town’s primary schools, Bourton Meadow Academy, with a view to joining its trust and becoming a sponsored academy.

Bourton Meadow Academy has been supporting children’s progress at Grenville since November, with a new senior leadership team.

The school was relaunched in January under the name of George Grenville Academy, with a new uniform.

However, the official transfer to academy has still not been completed, as Bucks County Council has encountered several issues with the ownership of land dating back over 100 years.

The transfer to academy cannot be facilitated until these issues have been resolved.

A Bourton Meadow spokesman said: “We are working very closely with the local authority and the Charities Commission to resolve these issues so we can officially welcome this school into our trust.”

The Bourton Meadow Education Trust comprises Bourton Meadow Academy, including Bourton Meadow Teacher Training, and will soon include the new primary school on the 700-home Windsor Park/Lace Hill development opposite Tesco.
