Another regular of the big stage and small screen is set to get a Buckingham audience roaring with laughter when he appears at the Old Town Hall later this month.

Andrew Maxwell has appeared on Live at the Apollo and is a regular on 8 out of 10 Cats and One Night Stand, and is now set to perform in Buckingham on Sunday, September 29.

The Times has described him as: ‘Fiercely funny and utterly invigorating.’

Mr Maxwell’s appearance follows on from shows by Sean Walsh, Miles Jupp, Simon Evans and others, all organised by Buckingham Town Council’s events committee.

Committee chairman Robin Stuchbury said: “He’s a comedian whose act comes without a fixed script, which means he’s spontaneous and also seems to be very inclusive of the audience.”

Mr Stuchbury credited events assistant Amanda Brubaker with helping to build a good relationship with an agent who has access to the top UK comedians.

Mr Stuchbury said the last comedy night could have been sold out twice over and added: “They are now in a position where they want to come back because it’s a good place to meet a new audience and try out new material.

“The last comedy night with Mark Steel could have sold out twice being such a name.

“At the last council meeting there was only one member who didn’t agree we should carry on with comedy nights.

“Most agreed it was good for community and brings people together on a Sunday night.

“With all the bad in the world we thought this is what we should be doing.”

Mr Stuchbury also thanked the management and staff at Villiers Hotel for ‘bending over backwards’ to make the Old Town Hall comedy night such a success.

Supporting Andrew will be Jim Tavare, stand up comedian, actor and musician. He is best known for his work on The Sketch Show on ITV and for playing the role of Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

MC will be young stand-up Jimmy McGhie, who performs to great acclaim on the UK and international comedy circuit and is highly sought-after as a TV warm-up artist on shows such as Deal Or No Deal and Loose Women. He has recently performed on Russell Howard’s Good News.

Tickets are on sale at Villiers Hotel and the Tourist Information Centre, Old Gaol, Buckingham for £12.50 (over 18s only).
