SOUTH Northants Council is writing to young adults in the district to tell them their housing benefits are to be cut.

Starting this month the Government is changing the rules which apply to single people living in self-contained accommodation and aged between 25 and 35.

The changes mean that anyone receiving housing benefit for a room in a shared house or flat will only be entitled to a lower rate of benefit. Changes will apply from when benefits are reassessed this year, unless they are covered by one of the exemptions

A spokesman for SNC said they can not calculate the exact rate for shared accommodation as they vary month to month, but typical rates in the region were; £69.32 per week in Cherwell Valley, £68.50 per week in Milton Keynes, and £60 per week in Northampton. Call SNC on 01327 322322.
