John Bercow has been chosen as one of five guest editors for BBC Radio 4’s flagship news programme ‘Today.’

Buckingham MP Mr Bercow, who will be responsible for around half of the content during the Boxing Day edition, will use the opportunity to explore issues close to his heart.

He is set to interview Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales on how to ‘re-tool’ Parliament for the digital era.

Mr Bercow, formerly Britain’s top ranked junior tennis player and a qualified tennis coach, is also set to interview tennis star Roger Federer about staying motivated in old age and Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The other guest editors between Christmas and New Year are Everything But The Girl singer Tracey Thorn, former governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King, comedian Lenny Henry and former president of the High Court Family Division Baroness Butler Sloss.

Today editor Jamie Angus said: “Today’s Christmas guest editors bring us stories, angles, and interviews we wouldn’t normally find ourselves.

“This year’s crop has reached the very top in politics, finance, the law, and entertainment.

“The breadth of their experience and the diversity of their interests will provide a real treat for the listeners.”
