FIVE charities have benefited from the generosity of Buckingham’s bingo players.
At last Thursday’s bingo session at Buckingham Community Centre, representatives of the charities received cheques totalling an amazing £6,000.
The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, the Wooden Spoon haematology unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the Cancer Research UK Relay For Life each received £1,000, and CLIC Sargent received £2,000.
Bingo sessions, which are run by Sue and Tiddler Carter, take place twice a week at the community centre, and Sundays, and regularly attract 50 or 60 people.
And all the money donated last week has been raised from sales of bonus balls and raffle tickets during the past year.
Mrs Carter said: “It’s amazing really when you think it’s just the local people of Buckingham who come and support us. If it weren’t for them supporting us, we couldn’t do it.”
Bingo sessions take place every week on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Doors open at 7pm, eyes down at 8pm.
The dates are posted outside Buckingham Community Centre and Mrs Carter said new people are very welcome.
