Stanley Johnson has already been under fire during the lockdown period for saying he would 'continue to go to the pub'.

He was booked to take part in an online discussion with students at the University of Buckingham last week.

He had issues with using Microsoft Teams, so the University dispatched a technician with his young son to explain how it worked.

Outgoing Chancellor Sir Anthony Seldon let the cat out of the bag during the attached video when he thanked the technician for going out to help Mr Johnson.

He said: ""Can I just say, I'd like to thank [the IT technician] from the University of Buckingham team here, who travelled all the way down with his young son to Stanley, to take the laptop. Thank you very much indeed [technician] for all that you do to make these [events] happen."

The University of Buckingham is more than 300 miles to Stanley Johnson's home in Exmoor.

Because of Mr Johnsons seniority, aged 79, current government advice suggests that he should be shielding, taking 'extreme care' during the pandemic.

Buckingham University issued the following statement:

"This journey did not go against the latest government guidelines.

"Our IT technicians regularly help with the set-up of the equipment required for University events and on this occasion the work could not be done from home.

"All of the appropriate precautions were taken to reduce any risk factors and ensure the safety of all the people in question.

"Personal protective equipment (PPE) was provided and worn, all materials and surfaces disinfected, and this was a no contact installation.

"The ‘Fireside Talk’ series is being held virtually to help give our students, staff, and community stimulation during the lockdown. We hope the events are enjoyed and warmly invite everyone to visit our website for details on future sessions: Buckingham.ac.uk/firesidetalks
