Bicester’s family history researchers can browse county marriage records dating back to 1538 thanks to a donation from a local genealogy group.
Copies of a database containing more than 150,000 indexed records of marriages from Oxfordshire churches have been donated to 12 county libraries, including Bicester’s, by Oxfordshire Family History Society (OFHS).
Details include full names, dates, places and spouses from the period from 1538 to 1837.
The group aims to make more information about baptisms, marriages and burials available to Oxfordshire’s public.
Copies of the database are available on free-to-access public computers.
Wendy Archer, OFHS chairman, said the society was pleased to help family historians.
She added: “Our volunteers worked over many years to transcribe the old registers of the churches to generate this index.”
