You can now read about the latest adventures of Superman while sipping your latte at one of the town’s coffee shops.
Gyre and Gimble, on the High Street, has branched out into selling comic books, which means fans of the genre do not have to go to Northampton or further afield for their DC or Marvel fix.
Owners Elliot Wallis and Alex Redgate have formed a partnership with Aylesbury-based Dead Universe Comics, in Friars Square, to sell the comic books, and at the same time to encourage a new generation to visit Gyre and Gimble and sample their coffee.
Mr Wallis said: “We spoke to the comic bookshop owner and told him we had a spare wall in the cafe doing nothing apart from getting in the way and said, ‘Let’s stock your stuff,’ so he now has his own pop-up shop.
“The interest is still building up. It’s a matter of getting the word out on the comic book forums. We managed to sell 10 comic books in our first week.”
He added there were few places for comic fans to purchase books apart from Northampton, Aylesbury and High Wycombe, so the addition of comic books to Gyre and Gimble could provide another avenue for fans in Buckingham and the surrounding villages .
Among the comics for sale are Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Justice League, Black Widow and a grown-up version of My Little Pony. They are changed regularly.
The cafe also hopes to start games nights, which will include the trading card game Magic: The Gathering.
