Buckingham: Defence works for flood risk homes

MORE than 90 properties in Buckingham will be safer from future floods, thanks to a £575,000 flood protection scheme that is now nearing completion.

The properties now benefit from flood board (pictured), air brick covers and other specialist flood protection measures.

The work has been funded by a government flood protection grant, secured by Aylesbury Vale District Council, and the Environment Agency.

Buckingham was severely affected during the July 2007 floods, with dozens of town centre homes near the Great Ouse flooded when the river burst its banks after heavy rainfall.

The district council surveyed all the homes at highest risk of flooding – including properties in Chandos Road, Nelson Street, Bridge Street, Wharfside Place and Nortons Place – and offered them the chance to have the defences fitted by a flood mitigation specialist.
