THE end of the year marks the end of an era for the Buckingham street scene and the loss of a well-known landmark.
The retirement of two charity fundraisers in December sees the demise of the Buckingham Charity Bookstall.
Cyril Bourne, aged 84, and Clarence Hodges, aged 77, have been running the stall for the last four years, during which time they have raised an incredible £10,000 for charity.
Prior to that, the pair ran it under the Toc H banner for 20 years, during which time they also loaned out wheelchairs.
The bookstall has operated on an ‘honesty box’ basis, on Tuesdays and Saturdays outside the sorting office on the High Street, selling books for 40p to 80p each.
