Buckingham’s independent retailers marked national Independents Day last Thursday.
Shopkeepers in the town centre put on special offers and events to celebrate the wealth of small, independent retailers in Buckingham.
Shoppers purchasing in the shops could get stamps on a special Disloyalty Card, which could then be exchanged for a specially printed canvas bag.
Independents Day was the first event organised by new chairman of Buckingham’s Chamber of Trade, Elliot Wallis, of Gyre & Gimble.
His colleague, Alex Redgate, said: “The idea was to get people to discover shops they wouldn’t normally go to.
“At Gyre & Gimble, we’ve had a few new faces come in.
“We’re hoping to do it again next year and make it bigger and a bit more of a spectacle.”
Jenny Dodds, of At Home, said: “A lot of people didn’t know about Independents Day, because it’s a new thing nationally. It’s only been going three years.
“Now we’ve made people aware of it, we’ll look to do it again next year and it will be bigger and better.”
