PUPILS from Buckingham’s Bourton Meadow School were among guests of honour at the opening of a new playground in town last week.
Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) had consulted with youngsters from the school to find out what they wanted from a new play area. Local residents were also asked for feedback on the design.
And on Thursday, children had the chance to see the results and put the £65,000 new facility through its paces, when it was officially opened by vice-chairman of AVDC Michael Rand.
The play area includes traditional and imaginative play equipment that can be used by children of all abilities, from toddlers to young teenagers. A nest swing, climbing net, spinning dish, rope bridge and playhouse are among the fun features for youngsters to enjoy.
Cabinet member for leisure David Thompson said: “This is a fantastic facility and I hope the children will enjoy playing on such an imaginative and well designed play area. I would like to thank all the local children and members of the community who helped us with the design.”
AVDC committed £40,000 to the project, with further funding secured through section 106 planning development funds.
The district council is also planning a complete refurb for the play areas at Overn Avenue and Otters Brook, with work hopefully starting in the autumn and the play areas reopened by the end of the year.
