THE Northants Chamber of commerce hope the county will reach the forefront of international business after last week’s announcement of a £530 million pot of money to improve the UK’s broadband network.

The government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) funding is being invested to ensure that the UK has the best super-fast broadband network in Europe by 2015 and Northants is set to receive £4 million.

Chamber chief executive Paul Griffiths said fast broadband is imperative for economic growth and added: “Bringing super-fast broadband to the region will not only help existing businesses in the county, but could attract inward investment from other companies, really boosting our local economy and creating jobs.

Also, if the UK does manage to become a leader in Europe we will be better equipped as a country to compete internationally.”
