WORK on a new eco home at Garth Park is progressing swiftly.

Builders started work on the home, which is designed to be a demonstration house for the town’s planned eco-development, in December last year and the house is due to be completed by the end of April.

Rebecca Snow, from PMC, the project’s communications agency, said work was still being carried out on the outside of the building.

She said: “I understand the flooring went down on Monday.

“The outside of the building is to be finished around the last week of March then the inside of the house will be fitted out. We would like it to be open to the public by May 10.”

A photo diary is available on the internet.

The house is constructed using a modular framing system which uses a timber frame with high levels thermal mass (water tanks and clay boards) for improved thermal performance.

Once completed, the house will have LED lighting, wood pellet boilers, micro wind and solar photovoltaics and PCM thermal stores.
