Buckingham news: Extra staff are needed at town council for new Localism Bill

EXTRA staff will be needed at Buckingham Town Council to carry out the work required as part of the Government’s localism bill, councillors heard last week.

The results of an external staffing review were unveiled at a meeting of the council’s finance, admin and personnel committee on February 15, which showed the council needed the equivalent of a further three part-time staff, dealing with planning issues, general admin, parks and cemeteries and events.

The Government’s localism bill will see greater powers devolved to local authorities and give local communities control over planning and housing decisions, but there are concerns about the amount of extra work it will create for town and parish councils.

A final decision on staffing is due to be made at a future full council meeting.
