A TOWN business will be keeping the minds of south Northants councillors sharp after opening a coffee shop at the Springfields offices.

Sharon and Tony McMurray are familiar sights in Towcester, owning the Towcester Tearooms opposite the town hall. Mr McMurray is also a regular in the pages if the Advertiser having raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity over the last few years.

They have now teamed up with South Northants Council to run the coffee shop within the Springfields offices. The two people employed by the previous operator have been retained by the McMurrays.

A spokesman for SNC said it was an example of the local authority and an independent business supporting each other. The coffee shop is open to the public.

A naming competition attracted 25 entries and was judge by SNC chief executive Sue Smith. SNC staff members Sandra Best and Laura Welch won a meal for four with their suggestion The Green Room.
