scrap thefts: Police are hoping to close a loop hole which lets thieves walk away with items left outside businesses or left in skips.

Police are asking businesses to put signs on their skips or outdoor pallets stores saying ‘Items are not to be taken and any removal of property from the premises will be reported to the police as theft.’

A police spokesman said offenders are claiming they honestly believe firms wanted the items removed.

Call police on 101, or 999 if the theft is in progress.
