Campaign to help refugees continues

The campaign has been run by Sophie Antonelli and Jay Gearing at the Green Backyard in Oundle Road, Woodston, to collect items to help refugees in Calais.

And while they now have enough clothes to help the Calais camp, they are still appealing for other items.

They are still looking for dried and tinned food, cooking oil, large cooking plans (without plastic handles), tents, sleeping bags and tarpaulin. A website has also been set up to collect money to help.

Jay said: “We’ve had a massive response from the public, so much so that we’re now looking at distributing some of the supplies further than Calais, perhaps Kos or anywhere else the refugee crisis is taking hold.

“Our next step is to have a rocket stove building workshop to enable the refugees to cook their own hot meals.

“Currently they’re getting one hot meal a day, and winter is certainly coming.

“The importance of hot meals and warm living conditions has hit home as the UN has stated that 340,000 refugees that are either children or victims of torture, are in an extremely vulnerable state as winter begins to set in.

“We are raising money to help build and transport the rockets stoves, the more we raise the more we can help these vulnerable people.”
