Carnival procession celebrates Independence Day

Carnival is coming to town, to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day.

October is Black History Month and the University of Buckingham’s Nigerian Society is celebrating by hosting a series of events this week.

On Wednesday, a carnival procession with music will wind its way through town.

Starting at 2pm from the law school in Verney Park, the procession will travel down London Road, via Villiers Hotel and Nelson Street to Old Tanlaw Mill, where light snacks and drinks will be served.

There will also be dance and drumming performances, and everyone is invited to join in the celebrations.

On Thursday night, a Fashion Show and Trade Fair is being held at 7pm in Old Tanlaw Mill, with prizes for the best traditional wear, as well as dance, drama and drumming performances and light refreshments.
