Padbury-based charity Brain Tumour Research is poised to fund a second centre of excellence dedicated to research into brain tumours.

The charity already supports an annual £1 million programme of research at the biggest brain tumour laboratory in the UK, based at the University of Portsmouth.

Now it is considering applications for funding from eight other UK universities.

The charity, which also lobbies for a larger share of UK cancer research funding, aims eventually to raise £7 million a year to run seven centres of excellence in the UK.
