A free 170-space car park could be built next year - after months of complaints from drivers.
Towcester families have criticised a lack of spaces in the town centre but South Northants Council hopes to give the town a boost with 60 new spaces by March.
The £350,000 car park, to be built on council-owned land just off Northampton Road, would then grow to 170 spaces once improvement works at the Brackley Road and A5 junction have been completed.
Councillor Dermot Bambridge, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “Many fast-growing towns like Towcester have limited parking in their high streets.
“But I believe that we will now be well served, which has to be good news for everyone.”
