Course gives busy parents tools to deal with family life

SIX local parents have just completed a Positive Parenting course run by two local women.

And it was so well received that course leaders Sally Siddique, aged 43, from Akeley, and Melanie Goddard, aged 46, from Buckingham, are applying for funding to put on another course in the autumn.

Melanie said: “We’re really hoping to promote parenting in Buckingham. We’re both really passionate about it. Parenting is the most important job you’ll do in you life and you don’t have to have an interview or any training.”

Five mums and one dad who completed the six-session course sang its praises as they enjoyed a celebration picnic with their little ones in Chandos Park on Friday. Typical comments were:

> It gives you time out of your normal busy life to reflect on how you parent.

> You realise you’re not alone – everyone has the same problems.

> It’s given me techniques to encourage my children to get along.

> They’ve taught me there’s a reason why my children behave how they do and given me the tools to deal with it.

> It’s given me tips, techniques and skills on how to handle a challenging three-year-old.

> I’ve taken a lot of the parenting tips home and used them, and I’ve found myself a lot calmer.
