BICESTER: A total of 60 people were caught watching TV without a valid licence in Bicester last year.
This compares to about 600 in Oxford, 210 in Banbury, 110 in Abingdon and around 90 in Didcot.
TV Licensing spokesman Pauline Gillingham said: “On behalf of licence fee payers in Bicester, we are committed to tackling evasion and enforcing the law amongst the small minority who should pay, but don’t. It’s only fair.”
More than 1,390 people were caught watching TV illegally across Oxfordshire last year, and almost 390,000 around the UK.
The estimated evasion rate has remained at around five per cent for the last five years.
