BURGLARIES, vehicle theft and robberies have dropped by more than 29 per cent in Buckingham town centre since last year, according to the latest figures from the Aylesbury Vale Community Safety Partnership.

A community safety strategy, which covers the period from 2008 to 2011, was presented to a meeting of the communities scrutiny committee of Aylesbury Vale District Council last week.

The report also says that during 2010/11, an increase in Serious Acquisitive Crime (SAC) had been identified in rural Aylesbury Vale and a rural crime initiative, which included visiting residents to provide advice and support, was organised to bring the figures down.

Overall, SAC was reduced by 26 per cent over the period from 2008 to 2011, exceeding the partnership’s target of four per cent.

A new strategy has been set up for 2011/14 and aims to reduce SAC by a further five per cent. Planned activities include a Love Your Land Rover campaign and working with off licences in Buckingham to reduce underage drinking.
