A STEEPLE Aston man has been ordered to pay more than £500 after pleading guilty last Friday to dumping rubbish in a lane near Ardley.

David Walker, 42, of Heyford Road, told Banbury Magistrates’ Court he had tried to take waste to the recycling centre in Brackley Road during the snowy weather over Christmas, but had left it by the road after finding the centre closed.

A council employee on his way to the recycling centre discovered the dumped bags of rubbish, and found items with the defendant’s name and address on them.

Walker was fined £75 and was ordered to pay £100 court costs, £328 for the clean-up and a £15 victims’ surcharge.

Councillor George Reynolds, deputy leader of Cherwell District Council, said: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable, whatever the excuse.” He said other residents had followed advice to leave rubbish out for collection following the snow.
