Crowds flock to much-loved country show - despite the weather

Despite persistent, and at times torrential rain, people donned wellies and carried umbrellas to make the best of a well-loved country show.

The Winslow Show Association estimate attendance on Bank Holiday Monday was roughly half of its successful previous years.

And while the money raised for local charities will be much less than normal, those who did attend had a great, if slightly soggy, time.

Show highlights included a good turnout for the dog show, some great artisans displaying in the crafts marquee, children’s funfair and the Winslow Concert Band.

Winners of the Bugs and Minibeasts-themed fancy dress competition included Treehouse Preschool as Best Group with a variety of bumblebees, ladybirds, dragonflies and a spider.

Show association chairman Dean White said: “While this is possibly the wettest show we’ve had, we are truly grateful to those local supporters that came despite the weather.

“A great number of volunteers helped us throughout the day, particularly Winslow Lions Club, Winslow Rotary Club, Buckingham and Winslow District Scouts and Edgcott & Winslow Young Farmers.

“In the cold and wet, our volunteers dug deep and we’re grateful for their commitment to the show.”
