People power has led to a road safety review of a ‘dangerous’ roundabout.

Readers have told the Advertiser they believe the lane markings on the newly enlarged roundabout at the junction of London Road and the A421 Buckingham bypass are misleading and dangerous.

County councillor Robin Stuchbury has been pursuing the matter with Bucks County Council (BCC).

And on Tuesday, Buckingham town councillor Jon Harvey launched an e-petition urging BCC to do an urgent road safety review of the new lane and arrow markings .

The petition, which was prompted by a discussion on social media, got over 1,000 signatures withing 24 hours, obliging BCC to take action.

It says the way in which the lines and arrows have been painted means theroundabout is dangerous.

And it concludes: “It is not just one accident waiting to happen, it is several and potentially very serious.”

Due to the number of people signing the petition, BCC road safety officers have been asked to review the operation of the roundabout and report back by next Friday.

Mr Harvey told the Advertiser: “I’m dead chuffed. My aim is to get it above 2,000 signatures now.” At the time of going to press, 1,635 people had signed the petition.
