PEOPLE from Winslow and the surrounding area who are interested in saving money and the environment by installing solar panels on their roofs can find out more at a demonstration later this month.
The newly formed Winslow Transition Group is keen to get people in the town thinking about a greener future.
The group has asked photovoltaics expert Steve Carter, from Ardenham Energy to come to the St Laurence Rooms on September 27 to give a presentation.
There will also be a question and answer session for those who want to know more.
David Field, from the Transition Group, who is based at Redfield Community, just outside Winslow, said the idea was to provide householders with more information on the benefits of installing solar panels for electricity and hot water.
He said: “It is not just environmental, there is also a clear financial benefit to doing it. We are looking to get that information out there.
“There is so much people don’t know about the financial benefits of it.”
He added it was possible to make a profit from having solar panels on your roof.
“There is a perception that only some can afford it,” Mr Field said. “With the money you get back from the government, you can end up with a profit. This is the best investment people can make right now.”
Redfield Community has started installing solar panels on its roof, which is expected to save them money in the long run.
Mr Field said he was looking forward to the presentation and was hopeful of a good turnout.
Photovoltaics can be used for both electricity and heating and government grants are available.
