Free insulation means warmer days for Pools

A FAMILY from Bicester will have warmer winter nights after having home insulation installed for free.

Helen and James Pool were the thousandth customers to sign up for insulation in the walls of their home in Poppylands, Bure Park after a survey revealed their cavity walls needed it. This meant the Pools received their insulation for free.

The assessment was part of a subsidised deal being offered by the Eco Bicester project.

The full cost of cavity wall and loft insulation is around £700 but last year the Eco Bicester Strategic Delivery Board agreed a price of £49 each within the town’s ring road.

The couple live with their two children Daniel and Sarah. Mr Pool said: “The thing that prompted us to have the insulation checked was the energy efficiency of our home and the cost of fuel going up and up.

“Many of our neighbours already had the work done and as the subsidy is only available for a limited period we thought we’d better get it done before it was too late.”

Bicester North ward councillors, Nicholas Mawer and Melanie Magee, were at the family’s home for the start of work.

Mr Mawer said: “I am delighted that so many people have taken advantage of the offer and it just goes to show that even relatively new properties can benefit from better insulation.”

Having cavity wall and loft insulation installed can almost halve the amount of heat loss in a home.
