Ex-boyfriend given 40 months for flat arson

A MAN who poured petrol through the letter box of a flat in Brackley and set fire to it has been a jailed for 40 months.

Gary Alden, aged 52, was spotted by a neighbour driving away from the home of his ex-girlfriend in Charterhouse Close off Manor Road, after starting the fire at around 9.20am on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Michael Waterfield, prosecuting, said the relationship ended two weeks prior to the attack, which happened while his ex-girlfriend was out at work but while a neighbour was asleep in a bedroom on the floor below.

Alden, of Castleton Road, Desborough, who pleaded guilty to arson, and was jailed for 40 months on Friday, April 20 at Northampton Crown Court.

Judge Sylvia de Bertodano said Alden left Desborough having planned the attack.
