The University of Buckingham’s Centre for Extractive Energy Studies – the first of its kind in the country – has launched with a conference examining current issues, including fracking.

The aim of the new centre is to offer a holistic approach to the study of extractive energy.

This ranges from issues of good governance, accountability and combating corruption, to the process of the extraction and its environmental and social impact.

The newcentre is also exploring community and labour rights in the global sector, including indigenous community participation in the decision-making process of the ownership, extraction and management of energy resources.
