There’s free entry to a grand 18th century house and gardens on Heritage Open Day, Saturday, September 13, from 10am to 6pm.

This is the first opportunity to discover the complete Stowe experience free of charge, including entry to the house, gardens and Gothic Temple.

A free family fun trail is available on arrival. Please enter through the National Trust’s New Inn visitor centre.

An 18th-century estate, designed for lavish entertaining, Stowe House is an architectural masterpiece on a palatial scale which contains the work of leading 18th century designers. It was saved from certain destruction by the foundation of Stowe School.

The gardens were given to the National Trust with an endowment in 1989 so they could restore the 40 listed monuments and temples and increase access for the public.

They contain 250 acres of stunning, informal landscape, designed by Capability Brown, and breathtaking views.

On Sunday, September 14, house admission is reduced to £2 but standard garden admission price applies.
