Voters in Buckingham will be able to take advantage of 30 minutes free parking in district council-run car parks in the town on May 7.
Aylesbury Vale District Council is introducing the measure at its Cornwalls Meadow and Swan Pool car parks on polling day to help residents who want to park for a short period of time to vote at their local polling station.
The 30-minute grace period will apply to designated pay and display car parking bays during the standard charging hours, which end at 5pm. Motorists who want to park for longer than 30 minutes will need to get a pay and display ticket.
The polling stations in Buckingham are located at the community centre in Cornwalls Meadow and the Buckingham Youth Centre in London Road (next to the Swan Pool).
Chris Sheard, the council’s electoral services manager, said: “As a council we are determined to do everything we can to encourage people to vote on 7 May.
“By offering free parking for 30 minutes, we hope it will make it easier for Buckingham residents who just want to park close to their designated polling station for a short period whilst they cast their vote.”
Local government and parliamentary elections are taking place in Aylesbury Vale on May 7. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.
