A conman who fleeced £800,000 from an elderly pair and then gambled it all away has been jailed for three years.

Gary Watts, 57, of George Street in Bicester, was entrusted to handle the finances of a 92-year-old woman and elderly man.

Between January 2014 and March 2015, he stole £800,000 from them.

Since then, Watts has squandered it all through online gambling.

Detective Constable Krista Thompson, from the Economic Crime Unit, is pleased that Watts has been jailed for conning the elderly pair.

She said: “This was an extreme abuse of the trust placed in him and has caused a great deal of distress to everyone involved.

“I am pleased that he accepted responsibility for his actions by pleading guilty.”
