A WINNER of eight paralympic medals will help open a fund raising event in Towcester next week.
On Friday, April 8 Beverley Gull MBE will open the 2011 Swimathon at Towcester Centre for Leisure which a raises money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
During her 11-year-long swimming career Mrs Gull has broken 13 world records and won three gold, four silver and one bronze over the course for two Paralympic Games.
Over the last 24 years the nationwide Swimathon has raised more than £34 million for charity. This year a record 580 pools will take part and organisers hope they will raise £2 million.
Swimathon President Duncan Goodhew said: “We are approaching a quarter of a century of Swimathons and I’m delighted to report that last years’s event enjoyed an astonishing 38 per cent rise in swimmers.”
