Brackley War Memorial has been awarded Grade II listing by the government.

It comes after a recommendation from English Heritage and will join the Town Hall as the Market Place’s second protected structure.

In the letter which confirmed the new title, English Heritage said the memorial has ‘special architectural and historical interest’.

The memorial, remembering those from the parish who fell in the First World War, was built in 1920.

Mayor of Brackley Elaine Wiltshire said: “I am delighted with the recognition for this historic monument and as a member of Brackley Branch of the Royal British Legion, I felt that it was a timely tribute to all those Brackley men who gave their lives for their country.”
