A community hub is going ahead with expansion plans, thanks to a £20,000 grant from South Northamptonshire Council.
Towcestrians Rugby Club in Greens Norton Road is home to four clubs – rugby, cricket, hockey and tennis, and their associated youth teams, as well as several other organisations.
These include Towcester Young Farmers, the U3A, HOGS motorcycling club and local pigeon fanciers.
It also hosts the town’s beer, sausage and cider festivals as well as other fundraising social events throughout the year.
The clubhouse is being used increasingly for parties and weddings and the club intends expanding the lounge to give members a place to relax while other functions take place.
Previous extensions have been partially funded by SNC and Towcestrians’ chairman Mark Austin said: “If it hadn’t been for their support, we would not have been able to contemplate moving forward with this project. We are delighted to be able to improve our facilities.”
SNC spokeman Cllr Peter Rawlinson said: “Towcestrians have made an impact on the regional, national and international stage, so their sporting credentials need no introduction.
“We all benefit from the sporting ethos that the club teaches our young people and the implications that has for their future health together with the knock-on effect that has on our services.”
