Freeze puts hospitals under pressure

HEALTH bosses are urging people to use accident and emergency services only in life threatening or critical situations as the weather takes its toll.

Despite the region escaping the worst of the winter weather Northants NHS is reporting increasing pressure on bed space as a result of the number of people going to A&E. East Midlands Ambulance Service have reported a leap of nearly 130 999 calls over one 24 hour period last weekend.

Mark Driver, director of strategy for Northants NHS said non-critical patients should contact their GP, the NeneDoc out of hours service on 03336 664664 or NHS Direct on 0845 4547.
