Racing driving Nick Leventis of the Silverstone based Strakka racing team followed in Royal footsteps on Monday when he was in an exclusive group abseiling down Europe’s tallest building.
On Monday Mr Leventis followed HRH Prince Andrew and a host of other celebrities after they abseiled 820ft down the Shard in London, completing one of the longest abseils undertaken by a civilian.
The group of 40, which also included Ffion Hague, wife of MP William Hague, have so far raised more than £1million for Outward Bound Trust and The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Nick said he was glad to be support two worthwhile causes and added: “You can’t really put into words the feelings you get when you come out at the top, because the panoramic views of London are quite simply amazing and there’s no building that comes close.
The worst bit was definitely the first few seconds when you go over the edge; it’s a real heart stopping moment. During the long middle section of the descent, at half distance, you’re still not below the top of the Gherkin, which is quite a weird feeling.”
