A living breathing roof is just one of the highlights of a proposal for a carbon neutral home in Deanshanger.
This month South Northants Council planning officers received the basic design for a family eco-home at West Barn, 100m north of Stratford Road.
The site is detached from the village, but outline permission has already been granted for 74 homes between West Barns and Stratford Road.
With a portion of the building embedded in the landscape for insulation and an organic Sedum roof, architects believe the development will have a minimal impact on the landscape.
Nicholas Bryden of Design and Build Projects in Duncote near Towcester said the family behind the project are concerned about the environment and added: “We also plan to use local companies and local suppliers which has an affect on sustainability in terms of transport.”
Air source heat pumps will heat water, air handling plants will control temperature, and the courtyard is designed to harvest rain water.
