A market has moved locations, back to where it began 50 years ago.

Brackley Country Market has switched venues from the Women’s Institute and Guide Hall in Manor Road to the Town Hall in Market Place.

It was at the town hall in 1964 that the WI Market began, before it moved to Manor Road in the 1980s. ahead of becoming known as Brackley Country Market in 2003.

But from today, the market will now take place at its birthplace as organisers were unable to afford the rising rent.

Margie Bush, who helps run the market, said although the venue is switching, the ethos stays the same.

She said: “It is a co-operative and the criteria is hand made, home grown and home baked.

“But with the recession and rising costs we were finding it difficult to sell enough for the percentage that gets taken from our sales to meet the rent.”
