A high street delicatessen is branching out with a completely new departure.
Winslow’s Delicatessen Estrella has always been licensed to sell alcohol, alongside its food goodies.
But this week has seen the launch of a new bistro-style venture for the deli, which is now licenced to serve wine to customers in the shop from 10am to 8pm.
Owner Helen Knight has installed a few tables and chairs, where customers can enjoy a glass of wine with nibbles such as a bowl of olives, two different cheese boards or an antipasti board.
There will also be whatever Mrs Knight has baked fresh that day, including quiches and cake, and a few ready-made sandwiches from Woodstock’s Bakery.
“It’s sort of a pop-up bistro wine bar thing,” said Mrs Knight.
“Chill out and watch what goes on in the Market Square.”
The store opened late until 8pm on Thursday to show off the new venture to regular customers and showcase some of its new-season foodie treats.
And from next week, the deli will stay open until 7pm from Wednesday to Friday, so customers can enjoy a glass of wine after work, or a pre-dinner drink.
Mrs Knight said: “The feedback’s been really, really positive. If you want to meet girlfriends after work, you don’t necessarily want to wait in the pub. And we’re not competing with other venues because we’re not staying open all night.”
