Move to regulate HMOs is welcomed

Buckingham Town Council has welcomed a consultation which may lead to the licensing of HMOs – houses, flats or bedsits which are occupied by people belonging to more than one family.

Town councillor Christine Strain-Clark said: “I am shocked that only 17 HMOs in the whole of Aylesbury Vale are currently licensed. There must be more than that in Buckingham alone. Young people in our town are often forced to share due to the prohibitive cost of housing. And no-one knows how many of them are living in damp, unsafe, inadequate conditions. The tighter regulation now proposed could safeguard hundreds.”
