BICESTER’S MP has highlighted the importance of EU membership ahead of a possible referendum.
Speaking in the Commons last week, Tony Baldry said any EU membership costs are outweighed by their benefits.
He said: “Fifty-four per cent of our trade is with Europe. I think we export more to Ireland than we do to China.
“The resolution of the Eurozone debt crisis is the biggest boost to confidence that could happen to the British economy this autumn.”
He said the prime minister was clear he would only support further powers being transferred to the EU if it is put to referendum.
Mr Baldry said while Britain will continue to advance its interests, its sovereignty will be protected.
