Andrea Leadsom has waded into the debate about a controversial new car park which raises concerns about flooding.
South Northants Council (SNC) has recently given the go-ahead for a 170-space car park in Towcester, as part of the Moat Lane development.
But the South Northants MP has written to SNC to urgently support the ‘considerable number of messages, calls, letters and emails’ of objection she has received.
Mrs Leadsom said: “A major concern of residents is that the site, currently designated as public space, is a flood plain which does regularly flood.
“I understand the Environment Agency have concerns about the proposal on these grounds.
“Given the flooding issue and the previous designation of the space, residents have questioned how the land was acquired by SNC in the first place.”
A spokesman for SNC said: “There will be a response in due course. It was addressed to the chief executive so she will reply once she has talked to people. We’ve received a lot of comments on Facebook.”
