MPs to rock the house at festival

MP for Buckingham and Winslow, John Bercow

It is that time of year, and the excellent Buckingham Festival is almost upon us again.

Although all the events look first-rate, there is one in particular that I would like to draw your attention to, and it’s in aid of a very special charity.

MP4 are the world’s only parliamentary rock band, made up of Greg Knight (Conservative), Kevin Brennan (Labour), Pete Wishart (SNP), and Ian Cawsey, the former MP for Brigg and Goole constituency.

The quartet have agreed to perform in the Buckingham Festival on Friday, June 24, 7.30pm for 8pm, at the Radcliffe Centre. With a combination of classic rock and pop favourites plus a selection of their new material from their album, Cross-Party, this is an event that should not be missed, especially as all the proceeds go to Help for Heroes.

I know from my parliamentary post-bag that many Buckingham residents are concerned about the plight of former soldiers, and Help for Heroes do sterling work with the Armed Forces to deliver assistance for former soldiers, many of whom have suffered dreadful injuries in the course of their duties. They provide training and opportunities and, crucially, hope to these brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for this country.

I hope to see you at the concert and would urge you, if you are a local business or feel moved to do so, to contact Anita Simonds on and donate to the raffle that is going to be held afterwards, all proceeds from which will go to Help for Heroes.

Otherwise, tickets can be purchased from the Buckingham Tourist Information Centre and are £5 each. They can also be reserved for collection on the door by ringing Buckingham Town Council on 01280 816426, or via the email above.

See you there!
