A bowler hat lamp shade and chairs transformed into shelves can be found in a quirky antiques emporium.

Owners Rob Sanderson and Krys Doyle cut the ribbon of Secret Messages Emporium on Saturday and the couple of 21 years say the first few days have been an ‘overwhelming success’.

The shop, in Bridge Street, Buckingham, sells a range of bespoke hand-made crafts by local traders with fresh items each day.

Mr Doyle said: “There’s something for everybody and it all changes on a daily basis.

“One woman has already been in four times, in three days, and bought something each time.”

The pair, who live in Milton Keynes, met in Aylesbury when Mr Doyle was working in retail and Mr Sanderson was working as an accountant.

But their shared passion for unique handicraft led to the decision to open the three-storey shop.

Mr Doyle said: “We heard reports that Buckingham needed a little boost and I drove past the old hairdressers one day and thought it’s beautiful, I have to have it.

“Rob does the procurement, he finds the bits and pieces and does the admin and finances.

“He gave me the title of creative director. I work on the items and theme them.

“If it goes as well as it has done so far, we’ll be able to build a little empire of shops.”
