Bicester’s former MP Sir Tony Baldry is one of three new Deputy Lieutenants who will assist Lord Lieutenant of Oxon Tim Stevenson in representing Her Majesty the Queen in the county.
The deputies’ role is to encourage and support positive contributions to community life in Oxon, particularly from volunteering activity.
Deputy Lieutenants are appointed for the contribution they have made to the life of the county, and for their potential to contribute even more in their new role.
Sir Tony was MP for Banbury for 32 years and was awarded his knighthood in 2012. He is the head of a set of commercial chambers in the Temple and a non-executive director of a number of private and public companies.
He also chairs the Church Buildings Council, which looks after the care and maintenance of all 16,000 parish churches in England and chairs the Trustees of St Ethelburga’s Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in London. He is High Steward of Banbury.
