Plans for a new Tesco Extra store and a major expansion of Bicester Village can proceed without delay after ministers decided not to ‘call in’ the decision.

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government told Cherwell District Council (CDC) the plans did not conflict with national policies have significant effects beyond the immediate area.

CDC’s lead member for planning, Councillor Michael Gibbard, said: “I’m pleased that the Secretary of State has seen fit not to call in this application.

“We can now look forward to these proposals progressing swiftly as an integral part of the overall development of the town that will lead to its increasing prosperity.”
